Tandem riders dress well and arrive early!

In 1998 organizers of the Midwest National Tandem Rally,  extended an invitation to teach a bike cleaning clinic at their annual event. The scheduled time slot for the clinic, 8 P.M Saturday night. The afternoon of the clinic we conducted the usual walk through. Sound check, set-up. The room seating capacity, allowed for a maximum of 85. During the day I tried to get a general sense of  interest in attending an  8 P.M. workshop. Seemingly, throughout the event, there was no atmospheric buzz  of excitement about the cleaning clinic. None at all. Nada. Zilch.

At 7:50 P.M I headed toward the classroom. Ahead were two firemen  and  approximately 35-40 riders near the class entry way.  As the firemen were trying to clear the hall one of the neatly dressed tandem riders looked and pointed my way. He said," there he is. The firemen walked to me, stopped , and said. "We  have to send some away from the workshop, right now we're  in violation. How do you want to handle this?" Well, That evening 2 bike cleaning clinics were taught.
  One at  8:05 P.M., another at 9 P.M.

CYCLISTS REALLY WANT TO LEARN.. Accommodate!!

The  interest and questions at the National Tandem Rally clinics, set the stage for The Bike Detail Workshop Series. Bike Shops, Bike Clubs, Women Only workshops and independent groups  of Cyclists consistantly schedule our workshops. You are invited to do the same for your fellow riders.

"Harold, your knowledge of cycling, maintenance, products, and concepts is amazing - far more than I have ever experienced. Your teaching/coaching skills show patience and ability to explain matters in very understandable ways. During the workshop even the most skeptical became excited and enthused regarding your technique and product. The Kern Wheelmen members present absorbed your information and were enthusiastic regarding your concept, process, and ideas."
